Francis Livingston: Reverie in Paint

Overview
Reverie in Paint reflects not only what Livingston sees, but how he thinks and processes the world around him. The exhibition title speaks to this internal landscape: a quiet, reflective state where memory, observation, and imagination converge.

Bonner David New York is pleased to announce Reverie in Paint, a new exhibition of works by Francis Livingston. This latest body of work reflects Livingston’s contemplative approach to painting abstract, atmospheric, and at times dreamlike, while remaining rooted in the visual language of the city.

Livingston’s paintings explore the intermingling of past and present, drawing heavily from the dramatic architecture, shifting light, and layered history of New York City. His work resists fixed narratives; instead, it embraces ambiguity. Forms emerge and dissolve, color becomes structure, and familiar urban elements are transformed into something more introspective and open-ended.

This intentional uncertainty is central to Livingston’s practice. By withholding definitive meaning, he invites viewers to engage more deeply, allowing everyone to form a personal and evolving relationship with the work. The result is an experience that is both intimate and expansive, grounded in place yet untethered from literal interpretation.

Bonner David New York welcomes Francis Livingston and invites the public to join us for the opening reception on Thursday, May 14, to experience these new works and discover their own connections within them.
