Hunt Slonem
“Nature is the most beautiful thing on earth,” says Slonem. “Its beauty is endless.”
“I say a mantra with every stroke I make,” Slonem explains. “Repetition is very divine.”
Known for his iconic rabbits, birds, and butterflies, Slonem has spent more than four decades exploring beauty, spirituality, and the natural world through vibrant, richly textured paintings. Flourish offers a rare glimpse into his enduring fascination with flowers—a subject inspired by the lush gardens and flowering landscapes that have surrounded him throughout his life.
Growing up in Hawaii, Slonem developed a particular passion for orchids, cultivating them in his own greenhouse. Today, the gardens surrounding his historic homes continue to provide an endless source of inspiration, filled with lupines, tulips, daffodils, larkspur, and countless other blooms.
In Flourish, radiant blossoms emerge from richly layered surfaces alive with color, texture, and movement. Slonem’s signature crosshatching technique—carving rhythmic patterns into wet paint with the back of his brush—creates a distinctive visual language. For the artist, repetition is both artistic practice and spiritual meditation.
Although repetition is central to his work, Slonem emphasizes that no two paintings are ever alike. Like leaves on a tree or blooms in a garden, each develops its own character and personality.
Working in his studio five days a week, Slonem continues to create paintings with the energy and curiosity that have defined his career. Flourish celebrates his lifelong devotion to flowers and gardens through a vibrant body of work that is joyful, immersive, and unmistakably his own.
