My MAUER is a potentially endless work of art that shows my rampantly growing chain of associations. One motif leads to another; one word evokes the next.
Before becoming an artist, I worked as a carpenter, which allowed me to personally craft all the wooden components of my work, including the stretcher and picture frames. Each Element is framed in a white, L-shaped wooden frame—an essential feature, as it enables each piece to stand alone or function as a fragment of the larger composition. My MAUER is designed to be deconstructed. Some collectors own a single Element, while others have two, three, or even five arranged in sequence.
MAUER Elements are spread across the globe. To connect these dispersed pieces, I created the International Mauer Union (IMU), which stands for "I am you." Every collector automatically becomes a member of this collective. The IMU website features a world map with flags marking the locations of MAUER Elements, visually linking this global artistic community.
